Today, I bought my very first black and white palestinian scarf from a clothing shop at a mall. I saw this scarf some days ago and found it really nice. I was aware of that it was a palestinian scarf, but not that the scarf is the main and important item for autumn/winter fashion anno 2007. I got to know that when I searched around google for palestinian scarf. I might admit that I bought it because it looked attractive and nice to me, but it was not in my intensions to wear it ‘just for fashion’. So while searching for the scarf around google, I came across many topics regarding the scarf in discussion boards, where there was different opinons about why one should and should not wear the scarf. I could see many people had strong arguments like it’s totally wrong to wear the scarf, when you actually do’nt know the meaning of it. The scarf is a symbol and representate the state Palestine, and when you first wear it you actually have to know why you are wearing it. I sat there a while and thought why I was going to use the plaestinian scarf and it did not took me long to come to the decision that it would be totally wrong of me to wear it just cause of fashion or attractness. One moment, a lil flash back in pleastinian conflicts and I knew why I am going to wear it. Not for fashion, not becuase it’s nice, but to support Palestine. The palestinian scarf do have more or less politician effect and meaning. Actually the different colors in scarfs symbolize what political side you are taking. The common thing all the colors and scarfs have is that when you wear it; you shows that you are supporting the palestinians and their fight for a independent and free country. I do’nt know how many of you actually knows the history behind the Plestina and Israel Conflict. In short, I can tell that after the second World War, people all around the world felt pity on the jews. And that’s here where the jews fight about a own state starts - the Zionism. They gets support from USA and starts moving to the Middle-Eastern area that belongs to the palestinian people. Thereafter FN helps the jews by dividing the state Palestine into two, where the jews get 56% of land. But that is not what the palestinians is fighting about, even though they had to escape from their own country. The fight is about the Vest Side and the Gaza-Stripe which the jews occupied. Today Israel owns 78% of what once were Palestine and millions of palestinians are on escape. I tell you, the conflict is much more horrible than this. I just shortened it to make it easier for everyone to understand.

So the thing is that since the palestinian scarf is a fashion item this winter, everyone is wearing it. You will see kids in their early teenages wearing it and some of the scarfs are even coming with star and heart designs (it’s sick!). I bet 90% of them do’nt even know what the scarf is symbolizing and for what purpose they are wearing it. So in my eyes, the scarf is in a way being misused, becuase if you first are wearing it, you are taking a political side and supporting something that is serious. Not for fashion, not for fun, not for own pleasure or etc.   So, my question to all of you out there is that, what do you think about the palestinian scarf being a fashion item and do you think it is okey to wear it just for fashion? Should the palestinian scarf remain a symbol for a fight for freedom or become fashion??

Islam, Peace only.

Selaam Aleykum everyone.

I am starting this blog to provide information about Islam and related stuff to all Muslims
and non-Muslims around the world. A lot of non-Muslims have a completely wrong picture
of Islam in their head becuase they believe what media shows them. I will have some
articles related to this issue about prejudice and stereotyping.

I am based in Norway and will therefore have some information that only counts in Norway,
like what is Halal and what is Haram. I have noted that alot of people are not sure about what
E-numbers actually are Halal or Haram and it is for sure not easy to all the time call or send
e-mail to the produsents to find out wheter a product is Halal or Haram. So for helping myself
and everyone else I will set up a list.

Every Muslim and non-Muslim is most welcome to my blog and Insha’Allah I will try my best
to update this blog frequently.

May Allah bless all of us. Amen.

Ma selaama
